Taysir Alony Trial: War against terrorism or against Justice?

Written by Lawyer: Ibrahim Taouti

Topic:

This human rights book analyzes the security methodology adopted in handling terrorism files and reflects the miserable influences of exceptional laws on democracy and peoples’ dignity in the north and south regions. It represents an important intellectual, legal and moral hit against those who strive for globalizing emergency case and overthrowing inherited human rights under the name of democracy imported on the boards of clean military processes.
The author make a deep analyze of the Spanish judicial system and its functioning. He demonstrates the flaws in the prosecution case, full of misunderstandings in its more than 40,000 documents, and concludes to the failure of what was to be "the" model of the democratic trial against international terrorism. The Police suspected atomic weapons only by misinterpreting the title of a booklet on 40 hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad, known as the "40 Ennawawi"; So police talks on nuclear weapons (nawawi is the adjective “atomic” in Arabic whereas here it is a person's name). And in a script of a telephone conversation, the police believed that the accused Taysir was talking about "ammunition" while he explained his preference for immature zucchini (squash) because it’s low in calories! That would be funny if it wasn’t the imprisonment of an innocent journalist and if it wasn't the hype for what was to be the first historical trial of al-Qaeda in the world!
From 40 defendants, including Bin Laden, only 16 were detained and then condemned because the Spanish criminal justice system doesn’t allow in absentia trial (absence of the accused).
No human rights serious journalist shall disregard reading this book.
